New Reconciling the site spec and development site

Referenced Page:

Greetings from the Dojo project on the new DrupalKata.com! I've moved the site spec here so we can openly revise and collaborate. There are still some holes/inaccuracies in the spec. and we're going to have to reconcile with the work already accomplished on http://dev.drupaldojo.com/.

I should also note the team is filling out nicely, yet it's imperative we ensure everyone is properly incentivized and we're efficient with the teams limited time. So let's be sure to cost this out and ensure we have an actual project manager driving this.

Ideally we can have a basic, yet functional site live by months end. We then can start working on a Drupal 7 version in which we'll match apprentices w/ mentors and capture/document each development phase in detail.

Still working on centralizing relevant issues and documentation in this new space, but just wanted to set this up and say hello!!

Plan coming together

Kristof, Trevor, and some others discussed next steps in the IRC (transcript here) and we're going to spend a bit more time on this tomorrow. Main priority again is to go over the site spec (issue here), figure out what's still needed, and how to handle the day - day.

Agenda for the next meeting

We'll be bringing together the project team to discuss progress and the next steps needed to relaunch the Drupal Dojo. Some agenda points as follows:

  • Team and resources - Do we have the sufficient human and financial resources to complete this project?
  • Site specification - Go over the site spec and related issues; Reconcile with the development, theming, and design already in progress; Determine the action items and timeline to get the site up ASAP.
  • Project management process and infrastructure - Are we sufficiently set up to openly develop and manage this project? What improvements do we need to make to the Kata website?
  • Documentation and lesson production - Figure out the best way to document and produce learning materials from this project. How many weekly Building With Drupal sessions should be focusing on this effort?

Probably some other issues we should cover, but that should get the ball rolling...

Meeting recap

Due to some technical difficulties and time constraints, our meeting went shorter than anticipated. That said, we still were able to take some good steps forward.

  • Brief introductions from Kristof, Aaron, Trevor, Cameron, and myself.
  • Estimated the new site would be ready in a few weeks or less.
  • Went over site specification and deferred features such as blogs, forums, and Dimdim integration.
  • Decided that we would focus on another project to openly develop and document once the new Dojo site is launched (rather than immediately working on a D7 site).

Our next meeting should focus on finalizing key development issues such as:

These are just my recollections - Ideally we could take an hour this week and hash out.

November 10 meeting notes

Due to client obligations, we didn't have the entire team for our weekly session. Kristof, Aaron, and myself had a quick skype call to recap progress and our plan over the next few weeks - points covered were as follows:

Drupal Dojo redesign

  • Development - Aaron is spending some time over the next few days working on priority issues
  • Design and theme - Trevor is still plugging away and will post progress here
  • Timeline to launch - Consensus is we'll have some ready to launch very soon; end of November, if not sooner, is realistic.

Drupal Kata

  • We recognized the fact that the Kata site and program needs some structure and clarity. We'll be working through relevant issues here.
  • Kristof and the Pronovix team (our hosting sponsor) are working to implement Aegir. We touched on using it to distribute features/profiles produced by the Kata and setting up Drupal sandboxes for training workshops.

Site Building workshops

Fundraising

  • Brief discussion on various long term and short term business models and why a straightforward (yet very beneficial) content/website sponsorship is a good first step. We are currently seeking out sponsors!

Upcoming

We're working on tightening up our process for live sessions and will commence site building workshops next Tuesday. In the meantime, we'll update progress here and in the relevant issues.

The project is wide open for those who want to participate and support!!
