Modulecraft looks like a valuable project with plenty of compliment

Kristof and our friends at Pronovix have been very hard at work building tools the Kata could both use and improve.

Modulecraft is an awareness & fund-raising project by Pronovix that aims to rally Drupal professionals around a shared effort to create the ultimate toolset for Drupal business. They've separated the effort into 3 major areas that are all interconnected:

  • Business tools - tools and services, specifically designed to make it easier to run a Drupal business.
    • Documentation - As creating/distributing everything (including documentation) is a key requirement of the Kata program, this is definitely something we'd like to use. I'm not sure if this is something we can integrate, a hosted/subscription service, or something in between.
    • Specifications - We previously talked w/ Kristof on how to incorporate this type of feature set built into Spezzle. Again, not sure if these are stand alone features we can incorporate.
    • PM4Drupal - Assuming this is building off the Pronovix Knowledge Management features, we already are looking to incorporate and extend.
  • Code Driven Development tools - tools and services that will speed up and simplify full coverage code driven development. As the Kata will produce many flavors of customizable installation profiles, these types of features would help.
  • Training tools - Seems like there is already compliment to some of the work in our Open Curriculum working group.

In addition to the feature set, the Kickstarter/collaborative funding system is similar to what we want to provide in Kata. I'm not sure if Modulecraft's goal is provide to a Kickstarter type service for Drupal (i.e. let anyone create/fund projects) or if it was more a tool to fund projects in which they're involved or have a vested interest. For Kata the goal is both, so there's obviously a bit of overlap we should explore.

My thought is there is plenty of room to compliment. If indeed most of these features would benefit Drupal Kata, we should look for ways to leverage the Kata and Dojo to drum up funds and other means of support.

Looking forward to picking up the convo w/ Kristof and seeing what we can do!
